Commercial Pilot Training

Many people dream of becoming a commercial pilot from a young age. The first step to making that dream reality is to truly decide you want to do it. That sounds simple, but one has to be committed to becoming a pilot. Once the decision is made, the next step is training.

Training involves choosing a good flying school and a good location. There are many to choose from, and it will vary from person to person depending on preferences. Once your finances are in order, and you have arrived at the school of your choice, you are ready to go!

After getting a medical, the first step in flight training, regardless of personal goals is the private pilot license. This license allows the individual the privilege of flying an aircraft, and passengers, but not for pay. The private pilot course requires one to train with an instructor, fly solo, and successfully complete a flight test. The student must also attend ground school and successfully complete a written exam.

The next step in flight training is the commercial pilot license. The private pilot license is a prerequisite for commercial pilot training. To complete the commercial pilot course, one must receive more advanced flight training including advanced maneuvers, flying by reference to instruments only, and pilot navigation. The student must also attend further ground school, and successfully complete a written exam. A flight test must also be successfully completed. In addition, the student must hour-build and have at least 200 hours flight experience (hour requirements may vary slightly from country to country) to obtain the commercial pilot license.

The commercial pilot’s license allows the holder the right to get paid to fly. The commercial license in itself does not make a career, additional training is required. What additional ratings will be added to the commercial license depends upon the goals of the individual.

A lot of people do their flight instructor’s rating after finishing their commercial license. This allows one to teach flying. Although the pay may not be great at first, it is a good way to build hours, and making another into a pilot is a very rewarding experience.Others train for a float endorsement, and fly people and equipment into remote lakes. This is also a good way to build hours quickly.

Another option is the multi-engine rating and instrument rating. The multi-engine rating allows one to fly an aircraft with more than one engine; the instrument rating allows the pilot to fly in marginal weather. Both endorsements are necessary to fly charters, corporate or for the airlines. Many training options are available, and many career options are available for the aspiring pilot.
